Life-Changing Food: The New Cookbook from Quirky Cooking

Life-Changing Food, Quirky Cooking

It’s a little over a year from when we started, and Fouad and I are proud to say that Life-Changing Food, the new cookbook from Quirky Cooking, is finally here! During this period of time, we’ve been blown away by the support we’ve received from the Quirky Cooking community. Quirkies from all over showed up in force to support us in making our book a reality by pre-ordering their copies, so a big thank you to you all!

When we set out to write Life-Changing Food, we wanted it to be a world class cookbook that represented the bounty and abundance of whole food cooking. We wanted to share our stories and inspire readers to make a healthy change with beautiful recipes and stunning photography. Life-Changing Food does all that, and more. We couldn’t be happier with it.

Life-Changing Food is a collection of 128 whole food, gluten-free recipes, and the majority of recipes are presented with Thermomix® methods as well as conventional methods. The book is for everyone, from novices to experienced cooks. The focus is on flavour and nutrition, so the recipes are easy to follow but deliver beautiful dishes that offer nourishment and healing. If you’re just starting out with gluten-free/whole food cooking, or if you’ve been eating this way for a while, Life-Changing Food will help you progress even further on your journey to wellness.

    Hi Jo
I would like to see the recipe index but there is nowhere to enter my email address on the order page.
Could you send it to me please.
The book looks great but I want to check if there aret many ingredients I won’t be able to get like cassava and purple sweet potato ( I can substitute kumara) as I have very limited ingredient availability in my area
    Thanks,
    Louise Fressard

I received mine yesterday and have carried it with me to my naturopath’s last night (so she could look at it while I was getting acupuncture, her copy hadn’t arrived) and at work today so I could look at it over lunch. I’m so excited! I loved your other book as well but this one is so perfect with the “grain free” recipes. I can’t wait to try many many recipes! Thank you to you and Fouad for putting this together.
It’s got great recipes but it’s also Gorgeous!!! Even hubby commented on what a beautiful (and heavy) book it was (he didn’t have a chance to look at it a lot yet, I’m hogging it!!!). I’ve got broth on already tonight! Yay! Thank you!!!!!

    Hi Jo and Fouad.
Just received my copy of your beautiful book. Have already made the shortbread biscuits. Best biscuits I’ve had since going gluten free. Big hit at work including with all the gluten eaters. Can’t wait to try the breads.
    Thank you very much
    Jack

    • QuirkyJo says:

Oh yay Jack! 🙂 Glad you and your work colleagues loved the biscuits…they’re amazing, aren’t they? Tried any of the breads yet? xx

    • QuirkyJo says:

      Hi Alison,

Thanks for your question. At the moment there is only the printed version of the book available, and at this stage we aren’t planning to release it in electronic format. We appreciate your support!!

I got my book this week from Go Vita Cairns, couldn’t make it to the signing 🙁

What a beautiful book – Butter Chicken amazing and Sweet Potato Rosti so good the kids loved them.

I have so many pages flagged – love it.

    Great work Jo and Fouad!

  9. Helen says:

Hi. I have a total plant based diet now for 4 weeks. What percentage of recipes are suitable? I don’t have a thermomix either.

    • QuirkyJo says:

Hi Helen, all the recipes have a conventional method so you don’t have to have a Thermomix. The main meal recipes mostly have animal products, but about one third of them are either vegetarian or have vegetarian options. The other recipes (basics, desserts, snacks, baking etc) are mostly vegetarian friendly. 🙂

    • QuirkyJo says:

Yes, it sure is! Check with your local The Source Bulk Foods stores or Go Vita stores, and many other health food shops, cafes, book shops and gift shops have it also. Maybe ring around in your local area, or send us an email if you can’t find it and we’ll check for you.

I was too late to purchase your amazing book from The Source at Warriewood Square, one of the girls in there said she thought they may not be restocking it. I just wanted to have another flick before purchasing it. Is there anywhere else on Sydney’s Northern Beaches which stock Life Changing Food?

    • QuirkyJo says:

Hi Kate! 🙂 The following store normally stocks our book. It would be worth giving them a call first before making a trip out there. xx

Hi there … I have IBS and this is my 1st year on the FODMAP diet. I have been so much better since I started almost a year ago and wondered if your recipes are good for us on this type of diet? As you will probably know we have to avoid other things besides gluten.. such as onions many vegetables and lentils etc.

    • QuirkyJo says:

So glad you are feeling better! Many of my recipes will need to be tweaked to suit the FODMAPS diet (eg. omit garlic & onion & avocado, swap out cauliflower for broccoli or other tolerated veggies, etc) – but if you search online you can find plenty of sites that will help with how to swap foods out.

In case you want to look further into this, it’s really important to look at the root cause of the IBS and work on healing the underlying issues. What a lot of people find helpful is to omit the high FODMAPS foods at first, while at the same time bringing in foods that will heal the gut, little by little. If you want more info on this, you can look at the allowed foods list for the Full GAPS diet to see the kinds of foods that help with healing the gut (all foods in the list here: https://quirkycooking.com.au/what-is-gaps/), and begin eating the foods from that list that you can tolerate, adjusting the diet to your symptoms without bypassing the essential healing foods, eg. short-cooked meat stocks, fermented veggies and sauerkraut juice. These foods are very important gut-healing foods, but they can cause major die-off for people sensitive to high FODMAPS foods, so you need to bring them in super slowly – like one drop of sauerkraut juice in a glass of water and drink half the glass at first… very slow but it will make a difference!

I really recommend having a gut health practitioner to help with this – I recommend Elyse Comerford https://elysecomerford.com (integrative nutritionist and GAPS practitioner) to ask about steps towards healing IBS issues.

      Jo 🙂
